stop hating justin beiber

Frankly, i don't know much about the guy. I don't watch TV, and don't follow much of any pop culture. But the amount of Justin-Beiber-bashing I come across is ridiculous. All sorts of unrelated videos on youtube have comments about him. As a phenomenon, he is certainly quite a brand; to command such humongous share of global mind space, truly amazing. The bashing might really be helping him consolidate his brand. But what irks me is the mindless obsession people have about his image. He is all of a sudden the yardstick of pop-cultural-degradation. Lets call the unit a 'bib'. so a jersey shore would be 1.9 bib, as compared to say lady gaga being 0.7 bib.
hmm.. i like this. guess will use it in this blog here-after. :P
I am digressing.

His music is supposedly for 13 year olds. If you are not a 13 yr old or don't feel like one, you do not have to listen to him. stop complaining. he isn't singing for/to you. there is a world beyond you. let go. let go of that misplaced hatred. use it on a band perhaps your age. go suck on the carpenters.
The rest of world outside of you contain many 13 year olds. they like to listen to him. let them listen to him. Its not all that bad.

But ya, don't be disheartened. I agree with your annoyance with 'baby'. The songwriter convention should really ban that word from future songs altogether unless it actually means an infant or some such thing.

Lovely little post. I cannot agree more. The same guys who grew up listening to Bryan Adams start trashing him when they're older because it's 'cool'. So do you start dissing the alphabet once you graduate to Faust? Rubbish.

On another note, I wrote a post on rock elitism which mirrors what you say a little. Among the points were - if lyrical ability is one of the reasons for saying pop music is 'gay', then sample this: "Ooooh, baby, baby, baby, baby". Not by Beiber, not by Backstreet Boys, not by Code Red, but by Robert Plant, lead singer of Led Zeppelin in Kashmir, arguably their biggest 'critic-favourite' track.

And on yet another note, someone on Twitter once said: "If the word baby was replaced by its literal meaning, 80% of rock music would be very disturbing". Another replied: "Same with the blues and 'mama'".

Sorry for a comment larger than the post itself.
